This innovation addresses fungal canker disease, which reduces yields of dragon fruit as well as marketability and ex-portability of dragon fruit from Vietnam to other countries. This innovation also addresses excess use of pesticides to manage the disease.

Innovation Description

The fungal disease (canker) caused by Neoscytalidium dimidiatum is a quarantine problem. Farmers use fungicides to control this disease. Many shipments of dragon fruit exported to U.S.A. from Vietnam were rejected due to the presence of fungicide residue beyond the accepted limit. The technique developed for bagging dragon fruit eliminated application of fungicides on the fruits.
